Born and raised in Kitchener-Waterloo, Jill pirouetted her way through early life, with 15 years of classical ballet and modern dance training. Countless performances with the Carousel Dance Centre included Coppelia and Maria Chapdelaine, with professional performances of The Nutcracker when touring companies The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens of Montreal came to town.
Auditioning always as a dancer first, after which directors would make sure she could vaguely carry a tune in a group, musical shows such as Carnival (as a low-budget clown with poor juggling skills), The Hobbit (as a dancing spider and a dragon leg!), Guys & Dolls (yes, a stripper), Gypsy Baron (complete with a live pig on stage!), Camelot and Oklahoma! (actually as normal people), kept her busy until she landed at Mount Allison. There she took part in two Garnet & Gold productions, as the Salvation Army General in Guys & Dolls (and again a shameless Hot Box Dancer) and as Yente in Fiddler on the Roof. She also choreographed both shows. She was Martha in a debut musical Sons of Liberty, and acted in several plays with the Tintamarre Bilingual Theatre Troupe, highlights being the promoteur/prosecutor in L'Alouette, and la bonne Toinette in Molière's Tartuffe, despite severe bruising from over-zealous on-stage eavesdropping! While in Sackville, Jill also played a supremely attractive hillbilly in Baby! and choreographed Live Bait Theatre's outdoor production of Little Shop of Horrors.
Since beginning her teaching career, Jill has directed and choreographed 8 shows with elementary, junior high, and high school students in all three Maritime provinces, including social awareness plays on pollution or racism, as well as musicals including A Storybook Christmas and twice a personal favourite for young thespians: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Most recently, Jill has enjoyed taking part in 5 comedies with The Heritage Players at the Lutes Mountain Heritage Museum. She is thrilled to be making her debut with Hairy Tease's crazy bunch of talented Trimble alumni whose comedies she has been howling at as a spectator for years.
